Gary Pond
Gary Pond is a United States Marine Corps veteran whose life story spans an adventurous California childhood, a troubled adolescence, and frontline service during the Vietnam War. After enlisting as a teenager, he fought to exchange a supply assignment for infantry duty and ultimately became a combat squad leader at only eighteen.
Gary survived devastating combat, serious wounds, gas gangrene, and the loss of fellow Marines. Through his memoir, he revisits these experiences with striking honesty, wry humor, and the perspective of someone who learned that leadership is not about holding authority; it is about protecting the people entrusted to you.
